JAVANESE HOUSE

Introduction

First traditional houses on Javanese and its surrounding are looked at both physical form of the dwelling and the cultural values and symbolic are discussed here. Next some already analysed and published pictures of house on temple-relief are examined. There will be examined if the function of the represented constructions could be identified. The use is made of iconic representations of houses and not of excavated remains because in South East Asia there are found very few remains of houses.

The Area

Because of the extreme wealth of archaeological findings, the island of Javanese is considered by researchers and novices as the centre of South East Asia archaeology.

Necessity of Life

Three groups necessities of life exists for the Javanese people, namely feeding, clothing and a house. The concept house can be subdivided into four subclasses. These classes are

*Longkangan : Living space, physical space, accommodation. A clear form or a structured place. A narrowing of the surroundings because of the limited power humans have to control the environment.

*Panggonan : Territory, habitat. Need in a biological sense like food, drink, air, water, land, warmth and reproduction.

*Penepen : Place for contemplation settlement. Place where you want to settle down permanently.

*Palunggukan : Place for social interaction, adaptation. The place where people adjust to each other and interaction between members of the community takes place.

Division of the Houses

(subdivision of the Javanese life)

All these different sub above is the sub-concepts reappear in the different parts of the house. The wealthiest houses have at least three parts. These are three independent constructions with each own roof together they form one whole.

*Pendopo : in which visitors are received

*Pringgitan : a narrow passage to the back of the house. A transitional area between thependopo and the dalem. This is the smallest construction of the three.

*Dalem : the private space for the family

Assignment 1

Hello guys, welcome back!

This is the 1st week of our Gamma year. So the assignment goes like this, we need to create an A2 poster to present or to show to the lecture what is the metaphor of some culture in Malaysia. We required to choose only 1 culture and pick 1 metaphor of the culture.

So I have already decided to choose Javanese as my main culture to complete this assignment. Well, as the metaphor i choose "Wayang Kulit" and the tagline is "Memayu Hayuning Bawono".

The meaning of the tagline is the culture love to live in very well comfort with the very beautiful nation in that country. I will explain this more detail during my presentation.

So here is my final A2 poster. Check it out!
